Drama, action, mystery, and of course, talking elevators.

The fast-paced, hilarious novel Amari and the Night Brothers, published on Jan. 19, 2021, by B. B. Alston, took off, as a New York Times Bestseller and winner of various awards, such as the Barnes & Noble Children's Book Award for Young Readers.

Since then, B. B. Alston has written two more books, making the series a trilogy called the Supernatural Investigation series. The series follows Amari, a thirteen-year-old girl who attends a magical summer camp called the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs. To the delight of thousands of Amari fans', B.B. Alston has announced two more books to be added to the series.

Spoiler alert!!! If you haven’t read the third book in the series, stop reading now.

At the end of the third book, Agent Magnus’s death, the capture of Dylan Van Helsing, and the downfall of the League of Magicians shook the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs.

I decided to interview two of my friends, Makaila and Abella, on their theories about the upcoming books.

Abella isn’t really into magic and sorcery, but she enjoyed the series very much. Her favorite character is Agent Magnus because of his personality. Abella’s favorite authors are Tui T. Sutherland and Caroline B. Cooney.

Makaila, on the other hand, is a fantasy lover. Her favorite character is Elsie because she's funny and always there for her friends. Her favorite authors are Sherri Winston and Shannon Messenger.

The interviews below have been edited for length and clarity.

Reina: Do you think these new books will be better than the existing ones?

Abella: There's a possibility, but nothing beats the original. This is a pretty action-packed franchise so the new books might be a tiny bit better. Either way, nothing beats the originals. Those were some of the best books I’ve read.

Do you already have any theories?

Abella: Yes. I have a lot of them, actually. You know they trapped Dylan so he can’t get out, right? I think since Dylan still has his magic, he could escape. I feel like he’s going to make a grand return. He might even bring back the Night Brothers.

You and I were both very disappointed about Agent Magnus' sacrifice. What are your thoughts on it?

Abella: I feel like Agent Magnus is going to come back because they never actually said he is dead. They always said, “he’s gone”. He could be in another dimension. Amari made a statue of Magnus, and since she has magic she could bring him back to life with that statue because the statue is magic.

Do you already have any theories, Makaila?

Makaila: It seems that in the last book, mostly everything is settled, so that impacts my theories, but I know that Amari was going to leave the bureau, so maybe in the next book, she’ll be convinced to stay or a problem will make her come back.

How does Amari appeal to you?

Makaila: She’s very brave and not afraid to say what's on her mind. She doesn’t let anyone bring her down and is very determined.

At the end of Amari and the Despicable Wonders, Amari and Dylan are the only magicians left with magic. Will that stay the same in the next two books?

Makaila: I don’t think they will be the only magicians in the next book. In the rest of the series, there’s always something that drastically changes. So I believe the magicians getting their magic back will be the next big change.
