SUMMER PUBLISHING INTERNSHIP: PROGRAM MANAGER
Part time employee, $45-50/hour

Reports to: Executive Director
Duration: April 15, 2025 — August 15, 2025
April 15—June 27: 5 hours/week | Hybrid (11 weeks)
June 30—August 15: 25 hours/week | In person (7 weeks)
Description
The Program Manager for the Summer Publishing Internship leads the planning, operations, and delivery for CHARM’s five-week summer program. The program supports young people in gaining skills for the publishing and media workforce, as well as prepares them for college and career opportunities. The Program Manager works to ensure that youth interns and site mentors from partner sites have an engaging and enriching summer learning experience. They directly manage two staff members (Program Coordinator and Program Assistant), and oversee 10-12 site mentors, as well as 20-22 youth interns (ages 14-21).
The Program Manager role focuses on the following competencies and projects:
Team Leadership
Sets and works towards goals for self, team, and program for the summer, aligned with organizational goals and mission.
Supports Program Coordinator to set and achieve goals regarding: communication, session plan delivery, site mentor support, guest speaker coordination, and culminating event planning
Supports Program Assistant to set and achieve goals regarding: daily attendance monitoring and intervention, intern support, and event logistics.
Plans and Leads onboarding orientation for site mentors from partner organization
Leads weekly team meetings
Conducts one site visit per site during the summer
Conducts weekly check ins with team members
Curriculum Development and Implementation
Adjusts and refine existing five-week curriculum for interns focused on publishing, media, and college and career readiness
Facilitates and co-teach session plans on fifteen (15) in-person days with interns
Communication
Writes and coordinates weekly e-mail communication with all interns that includes celebrations, reminders, and updates
Writes and coordinates weekly check in email with all site mentors that includes celebrations, reminders, and updates
Writes content for one CHARM e-blast for community stakeholders
Communicates consistently with team, interns, and other stakeholders
Administrative
Facilitates payroll for team and interns
Creates, administers, monitors, and analyze surveys for interns
Manages team in planning and execution for several field trips
Manages team in planning and hosting several guest speakers / speaker panels
Manages team in planning and leading culminating event for families, interns, and supporters
Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Traits required for this role:
Has demonstrated success in facilitating or teaching youth ages 14-21, and working with racially and ethnically diverse communities
Has demonstrated success in curriculum implementation and evaluating lesson success
Holds high expectations for youth and works to foster achievement through building relationships

The Program Coordinator for the Summer Publishing Internship works to ensure that youth interns and site mentors have an engaging and enriching summer learning experience.
The Program Coordinator role focuses on the following competencies and projects:

Works with Program Assistant to set and achieve goals regarding: daily attendance monitoring and intervention, intern support, event logistics and set up/break down.
Curriculum Implementation
Prepare, deliver, and follow up on selected session plans
Assist with planning and delivery of guest speaker panels and field trips.
Communication
Contribute to weekly e-blast communication for interns that includes celebrations, reminders, and updates
Write content for CHARM’s monthly e-blast for community stakeholders
Communicate consistently with team, interns, and other stakeholders
Administrative
Assist with payroll for team and interns
Take and monitor daily attendance and conduct interventions as needed
Monitor and coordinate deliverables for interns
Create culminating event invitation for families, interns, and supporters
Support culminating event logistics
Other duties as assigned.
