Summer Publishing Internship

This five week internship expands and deepens what we do during the school year, and builds bridges within Baltimore’s rich publishing and media landscape. Summer interns are placed at local publishing, media, and bookstore sites across Baltimore.

Baltimore City students ages 14-21 are eligible to apply, and must be accepted through our partner, YouthWorks to participate in the program. Interns spend three days a week at CHARM, and two days a week with a local publishing organization.

Site Partners host interns two days a week for five weeks, and are a core part of what makes this program so meaningful to our young people!

The Internship Experience

Interns spend two days a week as a cohort, and the other three days a week at their sites. On CHARM Days, interns build a community where they share what they are learning at their sites, ask questions, learn and reflect together, while developing skills for college and their future career. They hear from guest speakers, research topics in publishing, and engage in workshops.

Interns work towards answering these guiding questions:

  • What skills, knowledge, and experiences support careers in publishing and media?

  • What stories and whose voices are amplified in Baltimore’s publications?

  • How has the media landscape changed in Baltimore over time? How might it evolve?

  • What role does CHARM play in Baltimore’s publishing landscape?

  • How might your experience in this landscape inform your actions moving forward?
