We are thrilled to introduce a new opportunity for students starting this spring! These hands-on sessions provide a fun, supportive environment where students can develop their writing abilities while engaging with others and exploring their ideas.

 

FIELD TRIP Topics

Choose from three dynamic and engaging workshop choices, detailed below: Makin’ Zines, Haiku Adventures, and Flash Fiction!

  • Tuesdays and Wednesdays in April and May

  • All workshops are from 10:00AM to 11:30AM

Location:

  • Baltimore Unity Hall | 1505 Eutaw Place

Accessibility

  • Baltimore Unity Hall is wheelchair accessible and features both an elevator and steps for access to the workshop space.

Pricing:

  • $15.00 per student

Capacity:

  • Our space and field trip workshops are designed to accommodate approximately 25 students. We require 1 chaperone for every 10 students. If your class size exceeds 25 students, please mention this when making your inquiry and we will see if we can accommodate.

Lunch:

  • CHARM does not provide lunch or a space for lunch. We encourage you to factor this into your planning.


EXPLORE OUR Field Trips

  • Grades: 3-5

    Students will analyze texts and engage with the zine culture. They will follow a tutorial and receive a prompt to inspire a story or message about their community. 

    Projected Outcomes: 

    • Develop creative non-fiction writing skills

    • Create Zines

    • Enhance visual literacy

    • Explore diverse perspectives

    • Complete a personal project

  • Grades: 3-5 & 6-8

    Students will explore new worlds while engaging with their community. They'll read mentor texts and create their own haikus using the 5-7-5 structure. After sharing and receiving feedback, they’ll transform their haikus into art pieces.

    Projected Outcomes:

    • Develop skills in creative writing

    • Learn to write haikus following the 5-7-5 rule

    • Gain ELA Syllabus practice and critical thinking skills

    • Complete a personal project

  • Grades: 7-8

    Students will explore storytelling elements and analyze captivating texts. Using imaginative prompts, they will craft their own short stories, bringing characters and worlds to life.

    Projected Outcomes:

    • Enhance voice development

    • Explore diverse perspectives

    • Complete a personal project
